The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. I have no affiliations with any broker/dealer and all posts are for educational purposes only. BRCM-SNDA-QQQQ (for Wednesday)

1) BRCM closed @ 31.78

day/swing trade. You can also buy jan call options in the money, but only buy the calls on a morning dip, never buy on the rise. Please always play small with options.

3) QQQQ closed @ 43.11

Try not to buy any stock on a gap up premarket!!! Wait for some type of morning dip before buying. You gap up the stock, traders and their grandmas are gonna pound you silly.

ONSM's fortunes are changing.

ONSM closed @ 3.15

ONSM's recent presses indicate new exciting products as well as a partnership with AKAM. ONSM works well with AKAM because they have complementary products. I would not be surprised if AKAM one day ends up acquiring ONSM. As the web continues to grow, AKAM grows as well. I don't see why ONSM won't, although they really need more customers (they have about 2000 so far). ONSM's new product offerings should help in that regard.

ONSM only lost about $1 million in the previous quarter, compared to almost twice that last year. Their revenue growth has been slow but i see that changing with their new products, as well as Akamai introducing them to new customers.

Intermediate to longer term play. Once ONSM closes above 3.75, you got to be in. The 3.75 multiyear resistance is tough to break. If you don't yet own this stock, wait out today and see what happens before buying. Yesterday's action may have created a short term top.

GMKT running on G-force!!!!!!

GMKT closed @ $25.93 . Cramer calls GMKT the 'Ebay of Korea'.

Gmarket (GMKT) is a Korean auctions site that is growing at an exponential pace. It is beating Ebay's Korean subsiduary in visitor count even though GMKT only started in 2003. GMKT seems to be an exciting place to do business. Visit their website and you'll know at least what i'm talking about.

I have no doubt that ebay will lose in that country. Ebay is just too restrictive, while GMKT offers everything both sellers and buyers like. For example:

'Gmarket's business model places less emphasis on an open auction format than eBay's. The company offers goods that one can order at fixed prices, with an option to negotiate prices with a seller on an exclusive basis. This allows buyers to conclude deals instantly instead of requiring them to wait until all bids are completed in open auctions. That option is available on eBay as well, but at Gmarket open-bidding auctions account for less than 10% of overall sales volume.'

http://gmarket.tistory.com/7

'One such marketing program is a lottery called "lucky auction." It gives buyers chances to buy everything from LCD televisions to T-shirts at a fraction of the market value. A seller promoting an MP3 player, for example, invites consumers to bid for two of them within a given price range—usually less than 10% of the retail price. Then Gmarket's computer picks two bids at random to decide the winners. Others visitors can buy the MP3 player at a special offer price. The seller attracts consumers, while Gmarket happily hauls in commissions.'

---

That sounds like fun to me!!! lol

GMKT plans to expand into Japan (where Ebay failed miserably) in 2007, and then eventually into the U.S.

Intermediate to longer term play.

Wait for a dip for entry.

TRMM and their atms.

TRMM closed @ 2.30

I bought some this morning/afternoon at 2.04. Sorry i didn't post this sooner. I just wasn't sure if i wanted to make this an official recommendation.

The major reason why i like this stock right now is because i found out that Seth Klarman, fund manager of Baupost Fund, bought over 1 million shares 3 months ago at average $4. Mr. Klarman is a respected deep value fund manager. He now has over 2.4 million shares which he paid alot higher ($3-$9) than the current price.

The catalyst for the recent runup was due to mr. Thomas Ko (you remember him don't you?) recommending it at $1.60 and giving it a $6 target.

Short, intermediate, to longer term play.

This is obviously a very speculative stock.

Buy QQQQ calls on the morning selloff.

QQQQ etf closed @ 43.99

I just don't think we end the week before Christmas by selling off. Not typical.

Day/swing trade. Play small if you're buying the call option (january near-the-money or in-the-money). Alternatively, you can buy the actual QQQQ bigger position near 43.50.

PGLA and Your Liver

PGLA stock closed @ 4.83

The stock went crazy several days ago on positive results of their liver cancer trial. The FDA clears the path for a Phase III clinical trial. More likely than not, it will run up on Monday. Is that a multiyear cup-and-handle i'm seeing? Of course it is.
http://finance.yahoo.com/charts#chart1:symbol=pgla;range=my;indicator=split+macd;charttype=line;crosshair=on;logscale=on;source=undefined

PGLA is a very speculative play.

I say you buy a 1/2 position now and buy the other 1/2 on a dip. Remember your goal is to win some free shares and move on. (You never know what those free shares could mean to you 5 years from now.)

Short to intermediate term play.

Lightning fast OPTM!

OPTM closed @ 24.87

Once it blows past 25, it's going higher. Optium is a fiberoptics company that recently went ipo. The company last week announced revenue growth of over 100% and earnings increased several fold. Forget other fibers like AVNX and BKHM and their ilk, as they are chronic losers.

I see OPTM trading above 1 billion market cap not too long from now. We missed this breakout run by 2.5 points but there should be more to go.

Short/intermediate/longer term play.

$35 first target.

The techs are leading.

Many of the big tech stocks recommended here have moved thru 52-week highs. They are amazing and i believe they still have alot of room to run longer term.

AKAM - will continue to benefit because of web content proliferation. How could it not?

NVDA - the premier graphics chips company. The release of Microsoft's Vista in January will sent this stock thru the roof.

DTV, DISH, CMCSK - you know everybody loves hdtv. How could these companies not benefit?

NYX - a virtual monopoly!

GOOG - It will eat everybody's breakfast, lunch and dinner! Need i say more? Google's adsense program makes it a virtual monopoly.

RVBD - the next NTAP.

EBAY - a monopoly! They can charge whatever they want, and they have. Who says monopolies are illegal? lol .

AZO - could be the next Walmart of the automotive industry.

CELG - on its way to becoming the next Amgen.

GRMN - the leader in global positioning systems.

MA - i would own its cousin Visa too when it goes ipo.

GS - the premier brokerage firm.

etc....

-----------

Others like AMZN, BRCM, QCOM are only going higher from here.

Don't let anybody tell ya that AMZN is done because it's just a "retailer". It is the most convenient and dominant online retailer in America. I say you haven't seen nothing yet! Jeff Bezos ain't worried. Heck, he's got the time and money for space travel projects. Both EBAY and AMZN will be around when many of the companies we know today will disappear.

QCOM - a virtual monopoly.

---------

Hey if you ask me, i say you own at least the MONOPOLIES for the long long long term.

ATHR chips ahoy!!!

ATHR closed @ 22.21

Atheros makes chips for wireless infrastructure. It is a nimble competitor of bigger outfits like Broadcom and Marvell. ATHR is growing very fast and is still a relatively small company.

The charts are saying it's going higher, likely starting Friday.

Short/intermediate/longer term play.

Searching with SOFO

SOFO trades @ 4.45

Sonic Foundry allows users to search lectures and presentations on the web using their patented technology. It mainly caters to corporate and institutional users.

Growth rate currently at 60%. I expect the company to be profitable soon. The growth potential for this company is huge.

Intermediate to longer term play.

CMCSK's triple play

CMCSK closed @ 42.46

I'm gonna finish the hdtv trend with CMCSK. Comcast offers phone, internet and cable services. That's very convenient for the consumer as they get all their services all in one bill.

Intermediate to longer term play.

Hdtv rocks with DISH!

DISH closed @ 37.98

The Hdtv trend will only going to continue to grow. DISH will be one of the top 3 beneficiaries of this trend. Every home wants high-def tv, although not every home can afford one just yet.

Competitors include Comcast and DTV.

Intermediate to longer term play.

NUVO smackdown!

NUVO trading @ 4.18

The stock got slammed yesterday, losing $15 (about the price of a haircut? lol) because one of their drug studies with drug giant Bayer failed to meet expectations. Investors sold sold and then sold.

The company still has enough cash to last 2 years. Risk reward is good in my opinion. But it is speculative.

Intermediate to longer term play. Play small.

Saturday, December 09, 2006

DTV got more channels!

DTV closed @ 24.28

DTV offers 180 channels for about 60 bucks, which is a great deal compared to Comcast Cable. DTV also has more subscribers than Dish Network. I actually like this company and stock more than i like Marvell (MRVL).

Intermediate to longer term trade. DTV is a large company; so you can put alot of money into it without worrying too much. Make DTV one of your core positions!

First target $40.

"The Anatomy of the Trade"

I know you hear this all the time , " Trade your plan and plan your trade." There really is alot of truth in that. This applies to volatile stocks, low priced stocks, and speculative stocks - which you get alot here from my calls.

Know what timeframe you are buying the stock for! If you don't really like a stock that much for the longer term, please make it a day or swing trade.

The best thing you can do when you are in a profitable position is to sell 1/2 when the stock rises 20% or more. Why is that so important? For one, it allows you to sleep better. I'll give you a recent example: NLST. I recommended NLST at around $9. If you bought it there, you should have sold 1/2 when it got to $11.50, which is like a 25% gain. By selling 1/2 near $11.50, if the stock goes back to $9 you still made money! If the stock goes to $8, you still made money overall! If the stock gets hammered to $6.50, then you break-even overall! You can sleep like a baby at night with your 1/2 position no matter what happens!!!!! Holy cow, do you get it???? Huh? Huh? Another example is HTI. I recommended it $4.75 and it went to nearly $6. You should have sold 1/2 in the high $5's. That way, there is no way you can lose money on the HTI trade unless the stock goes below $3.75! I don't care if you treated HTI as a daytrade or long term trade, you should take 1/2 off on a quick 20% run like that.

(If you purchased NLST at $10 ( a dollar late after the recommendation), you should still consider selling 1/2 because you need to use $9 as your reference point because that's where i called it and it yielded 25% gain from the $9 level. You shouldn't be saying to yourself, "Since i got it at $10, i want to see at least $12 before i sell 1/2." No no no no no!!!! The reason you don't do that is because the rest of us who bought at $9 are gonna dump the stock on you and you wish you took some profits at the 11.50 level!)

Let's rock!

HTI the cheapest biggest potential stock on the planet?

HTI trades @ 4.75

HTI is a biotech company that just landed a huge deal with Roche for a potential $600 million windfall for the company (HTI) if certain milestones are met. Several analysts upgraded the stock with a high target of $10. HTI has technology that could revolutionize the pharma research industry, kinda like LMRA's proteomic processor.

short/intermediate/longer term play.

ipo NLST is a buy!

NLST trades @ 8.93

This stock ipo-ed last week. Relatively low float.

I personally think it's a cheap stock.

Wanna see a MOVI?

MOVI closed @ 3.53

The 200dayMA is at 3.48 . Looks like MOVI could breakout tomorrow.

Movie Gallery, like Blockbuster, had been hit hard the last year and half because of Netflix. MOVI is so much in debt now that it could go bankrupt. But i just don't think it will.

Very speculative, so play small.

Short, Intermediate to longer term play.

IDEV looks like it's going higher.

IDEV closed @ 7.65

Cramer talked about this stock at the Learning Annex.

This is a biotech company nearing 52-week high. There's still resistance at 10 and at 12. After that, nothing's gonna stop this stock.

RNIN encore!!!

RNIN closed @ 5.74

The stock is done consolidating and will soon rally again, likely Monday or Tuesday.

This company has alot of potential.

XNN: the making of the next TASR?

XNN is trading @ 3.01

XNN makes infrared flashlights that can see in the dark at long distance. Management recently announced they will have significant increase in revenues and earnings last quarter. The conference call is Dec 14.

Obviously i think the stock will continue to move higher from here for at least the next two weeks.

Short/intermediate/longer term play.

I believe XNN will eventually see $12.

MED for the diabetic!

MED closed @ 13.05

It's one of those companies like NTRI that sells prepared food for big (aka Fat) people. I don't think MED is as good a company as NTRI. Look at their offerings and you'll see NTRI offers more tasty foods. However, MED claims that their products help diabetics get off insulin. There's been several studies already done and it seems to support MED's claims. If the studies support this, then doctors are more likely going to recommend MED diet products to their patients. I am, however, doubtful that doctors will recommend MED over pharmaceutical drugs. (Why would anyone in their right mind want to destroy their business? What? No more diabetic patients?) Doctors prescribe drugs! When they recommend a drug to a patient, they tend to receive some incentives from the drug companies. When a diabetic patient is completely cured, that means less frequent visits to a doctor's office! Sounds like i'm trying to stir up a conspiracy theory? Okie-dokie. Believe what you will.

Anyhow, their revenues and earnings are growing fast, but not as fast as NTRI.

A money manager thinks that MED could be a 3-10 bagger from here.
