If it disapoints it'll go down a bit but should eventually rebound to new highs. Something tells me that EMC already knew VMW would be a monster. Else they wouldn't have ipo-ed this story and they wouldn't have retained over 85% of the shares. They fact that they did probably means they knew that VMW would have many quarters of blockbuster growth.

I can't give you all my strategies, but i have most of my money (over 75%) in equities right this moment.
I love the market going higher and i also love volatility. I don't do much position sizing, especially when i can watch the market all day long. I do use margin but not to the point i can't breathe with it.
Back to position sizing. With VMW, for instance, i knew it was going alot higher from the 50's. So i buy a whole chunk at one time. Why position size that which you feel is right? Then i trade around my core position, employing daytrading and swing trading tactics. Do i position size those? To a certain extent, i do. It is a function of what i need for my living expenses on a daily or weekly basis.
I have a big chunk of my portfolio in VMW at a much lower price than what it is trading now (whoo hoo!). So there is no risk for me with this trade. But i might pull out 20-30% the day of earnings.
With STV, because it's amazingly low float and extremely volatile and it's Chinese, i have a much smaller portion of my portfolio in this. So if STV copies LDK into the gutter it will not affect me.

I was late to the party with VMW. Was going to buy around $93 but never did. I am now going to wait to see how the CC with shakeout on the 25th. For this stock price to be realised with their PE they better blow the numbers out of the water. Otherwise I can see a 15-20% drop. I'm not saying it will hapen but if the company can't justify the current price (just as the PE can't) you can your last penny the stock will sink. That will be the best buying opportunity for this stock. However, of course, if the numbers are good the train (which has already left the station) may be cities away...
