The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. Red Alert! We will be handing the ball back to the bears

for a few days to a few weeks.

The bears have been pillaged for god knows how long now. They need a reprieve to get back in the game.

Expect continued shorting and profit taking.

Reduce margin and buy stocks when they become bargains.

Even though China, tech and big solars were smacked, YGE was very strong. Something may be cooking. Keep it on your watchlist, along with STP. A blow out earning in any chinese solar will shoot these puppies to moon.

VIX goes very much over 19.26 = 100 day and its all over for the longs...
DOW would have to drop 50 to 75 for vix to break 19.26, in my estimation...

dow futures at 12:30 PST is down 40, stocks coming in gapped down..

What everyones thoughts on STV now? Will BIDU pull all the china stocks down for awhile? Excluding solars! I dont consider them china they are global in my mind.

Fri Oct 12, 08:00:00 AM EDT
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just checking in....

This pullback so normal, way ahead of all normal trendlines.

BIDU 161 to 340 plus in what, a few months!!! This and so many others, like no one would not be booking some profit!

CML... stay in it, 6.9M is micro thin float!

Market could pullback into that Oct 17th turndate, not an exact date but makes sense......after that we assume our parabolic Oct into March run.

Keep that in mind. Once I have better data will update my Short Term indicators.

If there is one thing that bothers me it is Dow Theory, the Utilities and the Transports have not made new highs like the Dow. Do not like that one bit. And Transports tried this week to break a very, very important technical level at 5002 and failed on three trys at it. Not good at all.

Make what you can and if you have profits - no worries. Market is here everyday with new opportunities, forget the past and look for the new ones going forward.

Consider the possibility that we could end higher today, setting the stage for a rally next week. Yesterday the bear thru everything at us out of desperation. There was even a rumor of a bombing in the West Coast. That might have actually help triggered alot of selling. If that was a major reason, then expect a rally today for sure.

Too early to call to much in technicals.

What I am saying, Morgan offering, red hot tech play, low float - 6.9 is thin.

Me - have a core and letting it run, and actually want more, will add if I get the chance much lower. Willing to take a little risk and not get traded out of this one.

Yes there are risks as Beanie mentioned, maybe they came a bit early to the IPO window but sticking with this one.

When I visited south China mainland and looked at the various companies that could potentially manufacture our instrument, I was really not sure if they were not fooling me on every step I took there - like they were showing me their facilities and I was not sure if those really belonged to them or to some other company. Worthy to mention that they had no idea what was "RF spectrum analyzer", pointing me to old fashioned scopes and even power supplies.

VMware: Fidelity Buys 23.6% Of The Float
Posted by Eric Savitz

Fidelity Investments have been loading up on VMware (VMW) in aggressive fashion, no doubt providing some significant fuel to the recent astounding run.

In an SEC filing earlier this week, Fidelity disclosed that it holds 8,955,425 VMW shares, or about 11.184% of its Class A shares. But that percentage is hugely misleading, in two directions.

For one thing, it only reflects the Class A shares, and not the 300 million Class B shares held by EMC (EMC), which has an 86% stake in the company, and 98% voting control. But more importantly, Fidelity’s stake represents a much higher percentage of the free-trading shares.

EMC, according to regulatory filings, owns 26.5 million class A shares. Prior to the IPO, Intel (INTC) bought 9.5 million Class A shares at $23, and Cisco (CSCO) bought 6 million shares at $25. (Intel is sitting on a profit of $775 million on its investment, and Cisco has made $478 million on its stake, by the way.) But none of those shares are trading. What’s trading are the 37,950,000 shares issued in the IPO. So Fidelity, in short, has snared 23.6% of the float.

One other tidbit. According to the NYSE, short interest in VMW at Sept. 28 stood at 5,636,323 shares, which is 14.9% of the float; back out the Fidelity stake and the total jumps to 19% of the float. Ergo, you’ve got a thin stock getting thinner, with a relatively huge short interest position. It’s a recipe for volatility, and a stock trading at an astounding valuation.

The filing notes that 4.57 million shares of its stake are held by Fidelity Growth Fund.

Disclosure: I own Fidelity Growth in my Dow Jones 401(k).

=====

Makes sense as to why the stock ran up.

I own Fidelity Growth as well :)

if you trade penny stocks and stocks under $10, you need a pertrade broker and ameritrade izone is the best imo

you can negotiate with them and probably get $3-4 not $5

but if you trade goog, ma, bidu, aapl, etc...you need to be with a pershare broker and although interactive brokers has good best rates, its platform is difficult and not userfriendly imo.

if you trade those high price stocks and u are a semiprofessional trade, you need the best platforms around and low rates - you need to be with a prop firm brokerage that has retail accounts like genesis securities or assent LLC or echotrade for the best rates
