The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. XNN: the making of the next TASR?

XNN is trading @ 3.01

XNN makes infrared flashlights that can see in the dark at long distance. Management recently announced they will have significant increase in revenues and earnings last quarter. The conference call is Dec 14.

Obviously i think the stock will continue to move higher from here for at least the next two weeks.

Short/intermediate/longer term play.

I believe XNN will eventually see $12.

*** In my opinion, XNN could become bigger than TASR. XNN products cost over $2,000 i've read. I would imagine that every police officer wants one (even if their department won't pay for it, i would imagine some would buy out of their pocket), every military personnel wants one, every important security checkpoints wants one, every homeland security personnel wants one, every hunter wants one, every pervert wants one, etc.) In contrast, the only people who wants a Taser are the police.

As for XNN, Monday is another day. If the markets are up, I think it will bounce back. But as for how high it will go into earnings -- I really doubt that this will be the next TASR. Expected earnings are about .02 a share -- with the current hype, perhaps we'll see $5. I hope I'm wrong and that you all are right, but time will tell.

Hang tight on XNN. As for CYD....as far as I understood, the 6k filed today extended the horizon/due date for the reorg and debt repayment...this can be a good or bad thing. As opposed to the past, when CYD management seemed to let the reorg date slip by without any announcement, I suppose that this is a slightly positive turn of events. I still think CYD is a safe bet -- it will really stick at the $7 level for the time being.

hi all

I've been following this site for a while now. I notice there are a lot of valuable info being passed along with some bad ones. One thing I don't understand is rather you are an investor or a trader. I know people like beanie, neil, mark just to name a few know or atleast have an idea but the rest of you are losing money simply because you don't know why what your doing. for ex.
1. Don't buy a stock because someone said its going up. find out why. Otherwise just flip a coin.
2. Before you buy decide rather its an investment or a trade and than decide when and why you will sell. Have a goal!
I hope this helps. I didn't mean to desrespect anyone here.

I like how plucky little MRVL pulled back above $20. Beanie is right about this one: remember, MRVL chips may very well soon be in almost every major handheld electronic device on the market.

I generally try not to go with my "gut" when picking stocks....but my "gut" says we'll be at 22-23 by end of next week. I'll take that for a start!

Fri Dec 01, 04:15:00 PM EST
Anonymous Anonymous said...

JSPADE,
It's possible to be both an investor and a trader--but you're absolutely right, you have to know which role you're playing for any single stock. (This is what I think Beanie does, by the way).

Myself, I'm still learning..... I would be curious to know what you've picked up here that you liked. Are you investigating any stocks that you could share? thanks.

Its easy to say you are an investor but if the stock pops quickly, you suddenly become a trader. Nothing wrong with that. I have traded in and out of XNN twice today and bought again at the close.

yes you are correct. You can be an investor and a trader. but you must know which way your going before you enter the market. I have been doing this for over 5 years and its helped me alot. Yes there are times when I want to pull all my hair but thats another matter. I watch 20 to 25 stocks in a given day so I can't least all of them but I will mention couple that has been mention here.
1. NYX I first bought this in the mid 60s and sold it low 100s and I want to get back in for the long term.
2. USG this is definately for the long haul...2-3 years unless it goes up too fast. already bought in the low 50s. If it dips down I will buy more.(just remember what buffet said.."when people are greedy...be scared and when people are scared be greedy...) or something like that. Its helped me tremedously
3 MRVL love this stock for short term 3-6 months. waiting for the market to correct itself before I dip in.
4. XNN,LMRA,PXPL,AVCI,as a speculative play. My favorite is LMRA. I think they have alot of potential. I like PXPL for the most reward versus risk. I ran into XNN on this website and I do like their product but have to do more research. AVCI as a possible buyout candidate...

What you did today would be considered as a trader but you can call yourself whatever you want.
I personally would not have invested money in XNN as an investment, maybe more like a momentum play but everybody is different. If I invest in a stock and it gaps up quickly, I would sell some to take a little profit and hope to buy more on the way down. if a stock reaches my price target then i'm out and on to the next.
I guess you are a good investor(day trader) if you were in and out of XNN and made some money today. More power to you.
Once again I don't mean to disrespect anyone here.

JSPADE,
I used to blog on yahoo's stock's message board for 2 years, and most people there are nasty. That's actually where I found beanie who responded to one of my postings and invited me to this blog. I've been trading and "investing" for over 4 years now.
It's probably a good thing I cannot afford to lose too much money that I do some research before I jump in to any stock tips. But you know what, I did made a lot money this year from picking up some of the hottest stocks this year from Beanie. I used to be just buy and hold type investor until I realized there is also a quicker way of making money by buying ipos and momentum stocks- you only need to pick a few good ones to make real money. One thing Beanie keep on hamering on us is "money management"- when the stock gets really "sour" cut your losses and live and buy another day.
Your comments are well taken. We're all learning here even from other people's mistakes.
And maybe by staying positive and "nice" to each other, we'll all have
fun and make a lot of money!

XNN: Why would someone be interested in writing about a $3 stock? Gimme a break! The tone of the article is meant to induce selling.

By Carol S. Remond
A Dow Jones Newswires Column

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Xenonics Holdings Inc.'s (XNN) press release Thursday
was so enticing that it sent this defense company's stock up 149% on an
extraordinary volume of 9.5 million shares.

But it turns out that the reported "significant increase" in fourth-quarter
revenue heralded by the release is, at least in part, attributable to a one-off
event, a fact left out of the announcement. Seems that Xenonics was able to
sell some of the $2 million in obsolete inventory it wrote off in its fourth
quarter of 2005.

It's good that Carlsbad, Calif.-based Xenonics was able to recoup some of its
massive write down, but the news should concern investors who bid this
company's shares up to a 52-week high of $3.60 Thursday since it doesn't
indicate a turnaround at the struggling company which had an accumulated
deficit of $14.7 million by the end of June.

Already, some investors appear to be cashing out Friday, with the stock down
almost 10% to $2.92 a share. The stock closed at $3.20 a share Thursday, up
$1.90 on 56 times its average daily trading.

Xenonics founder and Chairman Alan Magerman told Dow Jones Newswires Thursday
that the company would net a nice profit for its fourth quarter that ended
Sept. 30 and that the trend would continue in 2007. Fueling future profits,
Magerman said, would be a new night-vision goggle called SuperVision.

Magerman said he decided to tell investors about Xenonics' fourth-quarter
results and positive 2007 outlook because of some frustration about a declining
stock price. Magerman said the company would post an operating profit of $1.4
million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, a huge improvement from three previous
periods in which the company posted operating losses totaling $2.2 million.

Pressed about whether Xenonics' fourth-quarter profit was boosted by the
company's write down last year, Magerman conceded that it was, at least in
part. But he insisted that, even without recapturing some of its write off,
Xenonics would have had a "significant profit" for that quarter.

Magerman declined to say how much of Xenonics's $1.4 million operating profit
came for selling goods that had been written down. The company said in its
quarterly report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission in August
that "management believes this inventory will be sold but currently does not
possess significant sales history or future backlog. Future sales of the excess
inventory component will have a positive impact on the company's gross profit
percentage."

Xenonics has in the past announced most of its large contracts. On Oct. 3, it
said it had received two orders from the Defense Logistics Agency totaling
almost $2.2 million. Because the goods were shipped in September, this revenue
was captured in the fourth quarter. It isn't clear how much, if any, of these
orders were filled with products that had been written down. SEC filings show
that the company had about $530,000 in revenue for its fourth quarter 2005.

Xenonics Chief Financial Officer Donna Lee attributed some of the
fourth-quarter profit to the fact that the company had been able to cut
expenses. SEC filings show the company spent about $4.9 million in selling,
general and administrative expenses in its fiscal-year 2005. As of the end of
June, the company had spent about $2.9 million in SG&A in the first nine months
of fiscal-year 2006, a $300,000 improvement compared to its expenses during the
same period in 2005.

Blogger beanie11111 said...

XNN:

...Like Magerman, Lee said that, even without the sale of written-down
inventory, Xenonics would have posted a profit for its fourth quarter. She
declined to provide additional information.

So before ponying up more cash for Xenonics shares, perhaps investors would
be well advised to wait until the company makes its 2006 results public on Dec.
14 to make sure that they aren't simply buying into a one-time accounting
event.

beanie -- the part i wonder about is that this headline is dated 10/3, but they say they filled the order by 9/30

anonymous (and everyone else who has a moniker),

Regarding XNN, don't worry about it. The company's products are for real and the interest in their products are for real as well.

When you have E. Hopkins at the helm of their SuperVision division, alot of things should fall into its place. http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/061108/law028.html?.v=80

What Magerman said about his concerns for the stock price and hence his release of guidance in an attempt to defend it are all perfectly legal, as long as they're materially correct. We have seen the same thing said during the ZVUE conference call by ZVUE's management. In fact, if you listen to that latest ZVUE earnigs conference, you will hear at the end a bunch of whining investors bagging on management about the stock price. It's the most hilarious thing i've ever heard! lol. But the ZVUE managers explained to them they thought the stock was cheap and that the company was growing.

Don't worry about XNN. It's gonna be fine. Just don't put too much money in it, as in all small caps.

There are alot of stocklemon types who take gratification in what they do - smashing stocks and exposing scams and attacking characters. In my opinion, their work are useless and don't benefit investors. (What i don't understand is why these bashers tend to bash the stocks that are moving. They should have notified the public on the stocks that don't move to begin with. That way, their work will truly benefit investors and traders. It keeps them away in the first place so they wouldn't dive in. It's only after they've dove in then the bashing comes out and hurts a bunch of people. Bad karma.) Creating fear and panic hurts stocks badly and it hurts everyone (but the shorts) badly, since fear causes stocks to drop alot faster than elation causes a stock to go up.

Most of these writers' pieces focus on attacking penny stocks, which pretty much everyone knows are scams to begin with anyways. Some traders just like to gamble in that area because they think they can get more bang for their buck.

I maintain that chronic shorties and bashers are generally not good people. They can't be. When you only see the glass as always half-empty, you can't help but want things to end badly just so you can be proven right.

Here's my thoughts about XNN, from the limited readings I made so far; the product is unique and high-tech geared towards military and law enforements. So it's a niche market- which both be good and bad. If they can get a huge order from fed or state, local govt. they can make a lot of money. But again this is thing is a limited market. The only way they make big profit is to put a big mark-up per unit.
The only way I will play this is to get in and out when it goes up. The charts shows high volatility- up and down. If the volume gets in there could be a good daytrading play. Certainly cheap enough now. I'd play small and will heed Beanie's tip to play more on MED because I'm more of a swing/long-term trader.

Moreover they are also expecting the same trend to continue in 2007. Now if only I could find the courage to bet big....

This XNN showed a lot of strength until mkt dived and cnbc dummies began screaming crash, crash, crash when the dow was at only 90 down.
Hold until 14th dec. This baby will see some wild swings over the next few days. It just takes commitment. But it will go up big time.
If monday mkt is decent, I believe it'll get back in the 3$. Earnings expectation should be enough
Congrats to those that got in at the lows.
