The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. Beanie,
I will be adding more long-term buys for my portfolio- I was thinking of CRM, GOOG and AAPL. I used to have AAPL but sold it when it went to 85 (after +8 gains). I am looking for the most growth and willing to take temporary downturn. I shall appreciate your thoughts about this.
Right now I buy and hold on 80% of my holdings. And year to date I am up 28% because of recent buys that went down, otherwise I am doing very well. Good morning and thanks!

I am thinking of adding slowly but surely - Goldman Sachs. Even with the fast and furious sharp sell off of the past week, Goldman Sachs has held up pretty good. This baby will double in 2 years.

sgv,

no doubt AAPL & GOOG are great long term plays (if you're into tech). I personally like AAPL the most. If i ever want to know how they're doing, all i have to do is to visit an Apple Store at the mall.

In the financial sector, i like GS and NYX the most. NYX is a virtual monopoly.

In the drug sector, i like CELG. This sucka doubled on me last year when i was lookin the other way. lol

For smaller very fast growth companies that are alot more risky than the above, i'd look into MED & SMSI.

Sun Dec 03, 04:19:00 PM EST
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I still have SMSI, will sell ctxs and buy some MED. What I usually do is buy on a dip on long-term stocks. I don't have enough $ and not enough time to shore-up my retirement, so I'd tilted more to more rewards/risks portfolio.
Thanks a lot, certainly cleared some doubts in my mind. I think I will stay with Tech stocks for now. I'm buying some XNN tomorrow-just small chunk, maybe we can get lucky again??? Goodluck for tomorrow's trade!

NYX has virtual monopoly, there are a few concerns though:
P/E is now 110. This is the highest in its class of exchanges. For example, CME which has monopoly on the futures market has PE of 50.

NOTE TO EVERYONE:

DO NOT put all your money into 1 stock. (at least i wouldn't recommend it) I've lost about 50% of the return I made this year because I put all my money (and margin) into 1 stock. DONT do it.

:)

PS...beanie told me to get off margin, and I didn't.

XOMLast week I saw Dick Cheney in Saudia Arabia. The only and only reason can be the price of oil. I am moving into USO and XOM, slowly but surely.

Mark,
Exxon is one of biggest company in the world- in terms of sales/profit and assests.
When I started buying stocks. It was my first choice. I sold all of my oil and gas stocks a few months ago when crude oil price went down. But if you're into long term investment- its one the safest investment-pays one of the highest dividends in oil stock-1.78% yield todate. My favorite was VLO, made a lot of money on this baby- I started buying when it was only 30's before split, but good things never last....if only I could find another small cap multi-bagger....

mark the rat,

I am a bit worry about NYX now. If it gets below 95, it will be headed for a consolidatory phase, where it could actually see 85-90. You need to get out of margin if that 95 breaks.

that's what i was thinking...just torn if i should get 100% out and possibly re-enter or just get out of margin for now......any thoughts?

srini,

both ZVUE and LMRA needs more substantive news in order to keep the stocks from going into a consolidation phase below current prices. LMRA investors disappointed with the delay. ZVUE needs more substantial news.

Srini,
I would suggest not entering ZVUE if you dont have a position. I am hearing short cases for ZVUE now. Not enough supplies in Walmart and Amazon.

If it were me, i would sell off the margin part at a break below 95 and put the margin back on at around 85 (if it gets that low). That's just me.

mark,

the only reason i would want to put the margin back on at 85 is because you made the mistake of using too much margin at such a high price and need to make up for the tremendous loss. Still it's risky no matter how you cut it. Margin kills! You could be eventually right about the direction of the stock, but excessive margin could get you kick out of the game before that.

Its official, I am sucha loser today.

I called ATHR being CHEAP, got in 800 at 21.50 on Friday..

This morning (less than 5 minutes after trading began) when it was heading down, I sold 800 shares at 21.40. Loss $94 (incl trading fees).

Stock is now at 23.11 (potential profit $1274)

Sucks to be me.

Lesson: Can somebody tell me how to avoid this?

LMRA is also a baby, there is no resistance above 10, and its consolidating to the next move up, today big buyers came through, the deer talk is shit!

ZVUE, is consolidating, many are shorting out there, beware, I think this will tocuh 10$ soon!
