The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. NYX going higher! AAPL going higher!

NYX closed @93.60
AAPL closed @89.20

AAPL should see $93 before any possible corrective move.

NYX should see $99-100 before any possible corrective move.

These two stocks were on fire today while many stocks on my screener were languishing. Tells ya something about them doesn't it?

AAPL broke out of $86 today, which was the trigger to go long (from previous day's post). I was gettin a little fancy (and greedy) this morning by trying to get a quick scalp shorting it at $87.50, hoping it would dip back to maybe $1. I didn't see the overall market that strong, and in fact it wasn't strong. Unfortunately, AAPL was very strong. AAPL has bottomed short term and is trending higher and i recommend you hold your long position.

NYX i have no doubt is going to $100 soon, and possibly to new highs if we don't get the much anticipated market correction.

Please do not confuse my daily posts with the comments. AAPL if you look at yesterday's post says that you gotta go long if AAPL takes out $86. I am sure my call to short AAPL @ $87.50 in today's comment section probably confused some of you.

I should have specified the short was for a quick daytrade scalp.

I'll try to be careful next time.

See ya tomorrow!

ICE is showing a "long-legged doji" candlestick figure today that could POTENTIALLY signal a short term reversal to the downside. But there is something else i'm seeing that says we're going higher tomorrow.

We'll see.

Gold price spike signals to market direction
It was interesting to read about your observation on big gold price spike yesterday as big guns loading up as an insurance against market correction. It co-relates nicely to the gold price spike last year in April & May from 520 to 720. Nasdaq went down 10% in two months after that.
I know there are bobble heads out here who just will not listen to any views but the market going straight up, but Beanie brings up an interesting point for discussion. The gold price spike is just currently in the beginning stages and is interesting to see if it goes any further.
I am buying GLD and SLV short term.

Click here to see the graph of the relation between gold price spike and Nasdaq subsequent 10% fall. Note this is only for last year and does not cover any other gold price spikes.

Gosu, one days spike does not form a trend, for all you know gold could tank today. yes, thanks for giving the heads up, but we should wait for a trend to form before deciding that the market might be weak. Right now nothing is showing that the market is weak. All your numbers are helpful as they should make us cautious, but there is no basis for modifying our portfolio.

Thu Feb 22, 08:18:00 AM EST
Blogger gosu said...

Absolutely Alok. You are right. Every portfolio needs adjustment from time to time. Aggressive portfolios are 80% stocks and 20% bonds. Conservative portfolios are 50% stocks or less and 50% bonds.
My portfolio - 60% stocks, 20% gold 20% other commodities and 20% on margin for daytrading.
There is a difference between being a bear and being cautious.
2500 is a good support level for Nasdaq, as long as it remains above that level, there is no need to think anything else other than that the market is going up.
I was just commenting on the comment Beanie made yesterday

You suggested to buy ISE.
Yes, they had good earnings two weeks ago. They need better volume to move the stock up. I think this is a safe long time play.
When do you think it will hit $50 mark again?

I have an open order to buy ICE at 161.25. Short it at 162 and give it to me.

People said if GOOG broke under 465, they'd short it. I had my open order on GOOG filled at 462. Go figure.

MMs trying to suck your shares by making you think the stock goes lower after a certain number. If you think it goes under 162, short it now and cover it at 161.
