The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. AAPL is going higher, AKAM is going lower.

AAPL closed @ 86.15

AKAM closed @ 56.95

Trend reversal, for the immediate term, for AAPL is confirmed. First stop is 87.50 and then 90.

AKAM - let's look for a morning rise before shorting. AKAM is due for a correction is my opinion. Kinda like what happened to GOOG.

Good luck.

So, the main indication for AAPL is its close above 86?
What do you think about the exchanges, beanie?
ICE has been on a tear.
ISE has declared stellar earnings.

Is ICE the next CME?

Blogger beanie11111 said...

gosu,

no, has nothing to do with AAPL closing above 86. Just a reversal two days ago and a higher volume big gainer yesterday.

The exchanges are great stocks but alot of them are overextended. ICE, for example, gained 200% in a matter of 8 months without much consolidation.

ICE is almost 1/2 the market cap of CME, so i'd say it's already the next CME.

beanie, don't u think that mkt will go lower today, it looked so strong yesterday and then we hardly moved. so w the weaker mkt u think we can go long on aapl.

and what is wrong w the people on cnbc, cant they make their mind up about the reason for the markets strength or weakness. it seems like oil is the only thing everytime. if the market goes up its cause oil is going up, if the market goes down its cause oil is going down. they use oil as a reason for everything.

alok,

they gotta give a reason everyday just to make people happy (sad?). The truth is, astrology probably gives better reasons than these CNBC clowns.

I totally agree with you, i've learnt to ignore them now. the problem is that even they are calling for a correction in the mkt. cnbc is atleast 2-4 wks behind any move, but this time even they are calling for a correction and the correction hasn't started. that is scary.

can you give me some advice on LTS, i've had it since 2, i dont think i should be holding it any more but i'm not sure. what would be the right price to sell it or should i hold on to it.

I firmly believe that because 77% of stocks are trading above their 200 day MA, I think its time for some correction.

luckily i have some of it for my core position too. LTS was a pleasant surprise for me.

they calculate day trade buying power as 4x the equity in your account, ie, if you have 25,000 you can buy 100,000 for a day-trade....but what happens if you don't close the position at the end of the day?

Mark, the Day trading power is a top limit per day of all the transactions that can be made. You can't use it all at 1 time. So you could buy and sell 25,000 worth of stock 4 times a day. Then you are done! They wont let you borrow 100,000 at 1 time!

I use interactivebrokers. They also allow day trade buying power of 4x the equity in your account. If you have $25,000, you can buy $100,000 worth of stocks during normal trading hours. Ten minutes before 4pm, a warning will pop up on your screen telling you that you need to bring your account back to the overnight margin level of only 2x equity. If you don't do it yourself, they will automatically do it for you before 4pm. They will just randomly sell some of your stocks.

Jonny, i use interactivebrokers too. i dont think they randomly pick a stock. ive found that they've have a very sophisticated system of identifying the worst stock that you recently bought to liquidate (which should turn out in your favor as they let your profitable picks run). i like their system.

Thu Feb 08, 01:47:00 PM EST
Blogger Johnny3185 said...

It happened to me only twice. I just assumed that the picks were random. But interactivebrokers do has some very powerful features. Ameritrade should have the same policy, since the Fed sets it.

Thu Feb 08, 01:49:00 PM EST
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anon, i dont think you will be able to hold your 4X position over night. you should either get a margin call or have the system liquidate your position. I think in scottrade they give you a margin call and give you a couple of days to deposite funds into your a/c. if you dont deposite funds they will liquidate some of your holdings.

interactive on the other hand does not give you time. if by 3:50 you haven't sold a portion of your holdings they will do it for you.

Thu Feb 08, 01:57:00 PM EST
Anonymous Anonymous said...

The more I think of it, it probably is up to the broker. The SEC sets the limit for the total trades in 1 day to 4x. It would be up to the broker to set there own limits as to when to issue a margin call anywhere from 1x to 4x. I use schwab, and I think when the equity drops below 40% a margin call would be issued. So I would not be allowed to buy Daytrading BP at one time
