The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. AAPL about to be slammed???

AAPL closed @84.83

If 84 breaks, short it because this thing will see 70.

Go long above 86, go short below 84.

The stock I truly believe will double, minimum, is SIGA (biotech). I actually think, it'll go much higher but it moves on news (or a genuine fear that it's gonna get away from ya) and I believe the new will definitely be great. Biotechs sometime require patience and are indeed speculative due to pipeline possibilities, testing, et al. Go read "rivalmoney"(sp)on the SIGA board.

it's already too late to play XMSR. It will gap up premarket to it's true value.

SIRI is absolutely the stock to buy for the longer term. Buy it tomorrow premarket first thing in the morning.

Folks, remember not to go out and just blindly buy the short and long plays. If market goes up, you buy the long plays. Else you buy the short plays. But not both!

Isn't buying both called as hedging?

gosu,

I suppose you can do that but generally a bull run lifts all boats, even the weak ones.

I generally "hedge" whenever i'm in a big long position (usually with margin) and i'm fearful that overnite bad news can kill my stock. I would buy puts on my particular stock so i can sleep better. lol

BOTH YHOO AND EBAY will have a good year.

As regards the article, I was watching the movie "Wall Street". Information is money. I think 90% of the money made on wall street is because of inside information.
The rest 10% is distributed among the remaining millions of investors.
The chairman of Goldman Sachs with 35 million dollar salary and $750 million in Goldman Sachs stocks becomes treasury secretary.
This article convinces me to re-in force my trading strategy:
1) Brokerages
2) Casinos
3) Exchanges

They repeated at least 50 times that the father of the contestant come to US with 750 dollars.
then, in the end, he is left with
75
750, and
750K on his board.
Then it turns out that he had 750 dollars in the suitcase, that they then gift to his father.
How more fixed can the game be?

Its performance may not be as good as the stocks listed above, but it is a compelling buy at 90.

I am sticking to my investment theme for this year:
1) Brokerages: GS, BSC, MER, LEH, MS
2) Exchanges: ICE, NMX, CME, NYX, NDAQ
3) Casinos: MGM, BYD, LVS

I expect them to at least triple S&P performance

I was looking for two main levels:
2450 as support for Nasdaq
2500 for resistance

Last time I was cautious was because Nasdaq was sitting at its suuport. If it had broken below 2450, I would have been really really cautious.
But now since Nasdaq has broken above its resistance level of 2500, I am starting to buy slowly my favorite stocks (Exchanges, brokerages and casinos) for the long term.
I am also buying Beanie's picks for swing and day trades (SNDK got me good profits today)
Among casinos, watch out for BYD (BYD gaming), I got into it today after it declared stupendous earnings. I am already long MGM and LVS. I will slowly add positions as it continues to go up.

Good luck guys.

NYX:

Interesting take i got from the message boards.

=====

From Kinetics Funds 12/31/06 shareholder report:
"The world’s various financial exchanges garner an incredible amount of press and discussion, but are still, in our opinion, largely misunderstood. The typical financial analyst discusses market share rather than volume processed, and he/she believes that new trading platforms will lower fees instead of expanding the entire market. The NYSE and NASDAQ are allegedly engaged in a bitter competitive fight; however, both have recently instituted fee increases. In a recent issue of Forbes, David Dreman, a widely respected value investor, wrote a column advocating that various exchanges be shorted. The underlying logic for this view is that the stocks have appreciated substantially and at some point trading volume is likely to decline. In the article, he questions whether NYSE should be worth 58 times consensus 2006 earnings. The answer, in our opinion, is that 2006 is an aberration, since the company is transforming into a for-profit company. Moreover, many of the world’s great investments have been predicated more upon business policy issues than upon anything that you can find in an income statement or balance sheet. Think of Microsoft when it received the right to develop the operating system for IBM’s personal computer. This monopoly-forming event didn’t even register as a footnote in Microsoft’s financial statements. Years later it became widely understood what IBM had given away.

On October 12, 2006, the SEC approved the NYSE’s proposed fee for distributing the real-time data that it had previously been providing to Internet companies free of charge. The approved charge was $1 per month for each unique user. If you assume that there are 100 million unique users that access financial websites, such as Yahoo Finance, then the potential revenue from this charge is $1.2 billion annually (100 million x $1 x 12). The approval was granted a 21-day stay on December 27th, after the Net Coalition, whose trustees include Yahoo, Google, and others, petitioned the SEC. What is at stake here is tens of billions of dollars of market capitalization that could shift from the Internet-related companies to the financial exchanges. There can only be upside for the NYSE as it currently receives nothing from the Internet-related companies. Imagine what would happen if the NYSE created its own financial website, in cooperation with NASDAQ, and offered the only website at which real-time quotes were available to the public. The traffic that would be directed to this website would be enormous, as would the advertising revenue engendered. None of this information is available in the NYSE’s financial statements. Nor does this potential change currently provide any economic benefit. This situation, however, is not likely to be a permanent condition. The economic implications of this issue are staggering."
