The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. TSL really nice bottomed chart

TSL closed @ 43.20

Really nice bottomed chart once again. The last time gave us a 10-bagger on that front month options play. Since september is coming, i suggest you not own too much of any stock.

If you didn't grab any yesterday, you might want to buy the dip today (if any).

Yes, i still believe solar energy will lead the bull market for the next few years. These stocks will be big and powerful. Some have been beaten down so much that you can't help but continue to nibble in.

What's with the "I'm outta here" stuff?...Heck...the week has barely started! LOL!

Got some sell limits I hope to go off and if they do will end up being a pretty good week after all. Tough market for sure and the bids are so thin it's really hard to sell into it and make some money.

Been buying a ton of the closed end tax free municipal bond funds that have really gotten killed of late and offer tax free yields in excess of 5%. Most that I bought are selling at a discount to their portfolio values. Not a bad place to be in a credit crisis although the leverage can hurt if rates on the st paper go sky high because of credit concerns. But even in a financial crisis you still have to drink water and flush toilets so municipal bonds offer a nice safe haven and a good return especially on an after tax basis...Pamfla

Doug Kass covered his QQQQ shorts yesterday, if i remember correctly. The idiot is essentially saying that a fed rate cut will bring everything back to normal by early 2008. What a moron! All this fear mongering about a collapse of the economy for months, and now he's essentially saying a rate cut will save the day. Who doesn't know a rate cut was coming since June???? I know, you know, Cramer knows. Why all the unnecessary fear perpetuation?? Bears are bad, they are self-serving, and soon the johnny-come-lately bears will be pulverized!

With that being said, i still don't want you folks to go gungho just yet until sept passes.

I think the rally is a nice set-up by the bulls along with Bush's proposal going into the long weekend. The huge lift-up today may very well be a preparation for rainy days to come in Sept. and Oct. as well.

Imagine if the bulls can't take the SPX to the upper trading range at 1460-1480 since the rebounds from the correction, the odds for failing to hold the most recent low could be high. Just my 2 cents.

I wondered who predicted this and why NVDA was so strong this week.

NVDA's GRAPHICS PROCESSORS TO BE IN APPLE VIDEO IPOD

New York (Jackson & Steinburger)

Since late July, there has been speculation that Navteq (Nasdaq: NVDA) has secured a design win as the exclusive supplier for graphics processors embedded in the forthcoming Apple video IPOD. The robust video graphics requirements of the video IPOD will no doubt require state-of-the-art graphics processor units (GPU's).

NVDA represntatives haven't commented on the speculation, but sources close to the company are likely to confirm a NVDA supplier arrangement with Apple in the next few days.

NVIDIA will be presenting at the Citigroup 14th Annual Global Technology Conference on Tuesday, September 4th, but because that event precedes the official Apple rollout of their video IPOD, company officials are likely to be mum about their inclusion in Apple products until after the Apple video IPOD's debut.

NVDA, the maker of graphics processors sells its products under the brand names, NVIDIA GeForce, NVIDIA GoForce, NVIDIA Quadro, and NVIDIA nForce.

The stock traded up 2% in early trading.

I'm actually up for August breaking a two month losing spell. We've now rallied almost 1000 pts since the interday lows put in by the Dow approximately three weeks ago. Not too shabby. Could we give it all back in the next couple of weeks? Sure we could. But the moral of this recent rally is that the "crowd" is seldom right and fear mongers seldom make money consistently in the stock market.
Selling into a panic seldom results in the best course of action for most investors IMHO.

For now?...Raising cash seems to make alot of sense. The market has rallied pretty sharply off the lows and appears to me to be discounting some pretty good news (like a Fed cut in the Federal Funds rate in September). If that doesn't happen the market could sell off hard from these levels. That and "another" shoe could always drop and send this market into another death spiral.

I've cut my equity exposure by 50% from it's highs. Been shifting cash into tax free bond funds, tax free bonds, and tax free money market equivalents. For tax free money market instruments I've been buying AAA rated and insured 7 day triple tax free variable rate demand notes (VRDO's) yielding 3.75%. Rates reset every 7 days and you can put the paper back to the issuers every 7 days at par. No cost to buy or sell either. Prices of the instruments do not fluctuate in value either.

Do any of you guys use stop losses on a consistent basis? If you are interested in employing stop losses, let me share three strategies I often use that you may find helpful:

1) After I make 20% on any given position, I set a stop loss to make sure that position will not turn into a loss.

2) After earning substantial gains on a position, I often use what's called a "trailing stop" -- one that automatically adjusts with the stock's upward movement.

3) Because some China stocks can be volatile, my trailing stops are often at least 14% away from the recent high so I don't get bounced out on normal volatility. That's twice the spread recommended by William O'Neil's method, which is widely followed by many professional traders.

Did a ton of chart crunching this weekend.

We will not see over 14,000 on the INDU for at least 15 or more years.

It is heading down in a big way between now and end of year......at least into the low 10,000 area.

Has held its near perfect wave 4 top pattern. Implies a lower low to come into a potential ABC correction.

12947 is of extreme importance.

China put in a very bearish pattern on close today. A bearish Falling Three Methods on its daily chart. Have to see if this confirms in next few days.

West,

Thanks for taking the time on all of this! I appreciate it. At the same time, I do not have the tecnical training you have, so some of what you write is like deciphering a calculus equation for me. Can you give me a "bottom line" description of what your research is showing. Maybe at the end of your post.

Thanks so much! By the way, you mentioned a lot about China. What are you seeing now?

I belong to a subscription that only focuses on China. I've really gotten excited about China after doing research on EJ. The guy that gives the China picks said that LDK is a great choice right now and expects it to be at $70.00 by the end of the year. That was what he said last week and it was up $5.00 today. Pamfla

Hmm..Interesting.
3000 points to go in 4 months. 750 points down average per month. If thats going to be the case, we will see at least a few days for Dow 500+ point declines.

I don't know who's posting as me but it ain't me although it is WAY to sensible to be gosu . He's too busy busy posting as Ted, Richard and a few others.

Gosu,
William O'Neal doesn't use trailing stops at all. he cuts his losses at 8% below his PURCHASE price not its high. What a moolie. You should research a little before you spout off. I thought you said you were a day trader anyway? Your other posts are profits of usually less than 2%, scalping. When have you ever posted a stock that made 20%? Never here thats for sure.

Go long losers, stops on the dow at 13,248. 1/2 profits at 13,500, trail to 13,690.

I'll be out most of afternoon...don't want to be tempted to buy anything!

want to keep cash levels nice and high until September 30 and sitting here will only tempt me to trade!

will check in later, have a good one.

PRGN - I added today. my favorite stock. was looking through '07 ipos last night and this was the one that lept out at me. this one should work here....yield is better than rest of group and record spot rates for the sector.

prgn is yielding 12% at $16.... a $1.90 or so per year....and with the sector rocking, they should be able to add some spot work to their charters remainder of '07. I'd only be concerned if the dry bulk index was breaking into lower lows, but the opposite is happening....it is breaking out! a 12% yield in a sector in which rates are breaking out to the upside, I don't get how this is sitting around $16. only thing I can figure is it is the typical under the radar ipo that sucked wind initially.

how does this not go to $20 from here? I think it must.

Thanks West for PRGN. I bought a bunch of this one today. I added this one in my kids account, that account is looking forward 30 years and chasing yield.

Will add a little more for myself.

Thanks.

Jim Stack of Investech says his housing metrics and charts show patterns very similar to the tech bubble charts of 1999-2000. He believes the housing market will bring down this market to a fairly substantial degree in the year(s) ahead. Just for fun go to his site and take a look at his housing chart versus the tech bubble chart of 2000. Stack by the way recommends defensive consumer staples only.
