NYX is a bargain any lower than current price. Don't be fooled by the pullback. It only takes one good day to pull this back above $100 and setting the stage for new highs.

Ok this is rediculous. Now I'm even more in cash. i can't find anything to buy here.
i think my paranoia about the direction of the mkt is uncalled for but I don't know what to do. i even went back to look at the charts for 2003 to see what happened after 6-7 straight up days, and couldn't find anything bad. what i saw was that the mkt just moved up and kept going up after very tiny pullbacks.

thanx gosu....so lets just sat i bought 50 shares of a stock and then 100 shares. So what is my total commions I paid. I dont see a place where I can check how much they took from commissions. Also what is the basket thing it talks about basket and spread trader. What is that all about. Sorry for all the questions but im lost with this new platform
Brett, this is what is suggest you do:
1) To start with, do not use Live TWS.
2) Start trading with their Webtrader. You will have more control over it and will get much better understanding of the system.
3) Open a free paper trading account. You can do it from "account management"
4) For a month or two, practice TWS using paper trading account only.
5) Continue using web trader until then.
Start using Live TWS only when you are completely comfortable with your paper trading TWS.
Trust me, it is very very frustrating to lose money if you just commit a mistake using TWS. The system is very very fast and you are bound to commit mistakes that you have no chance of rolling back.
Also, spend a lot of time on IB website and their online help and interactive demos. Spend some time reading about their order types as well.

ASTI is a great example of checking for warrants (or options) if you love a stock.
ASTIW has gone from 1.75 to 3.76 while ASTI has moved from 7 to 10.40 since 3/14.
Warrants/Options arent for everyone but if you find a stock you really really like and you have a high risk tolerence, go with derivatives.
I used to watch the know-it-alls get all giddy because IBm went up 3% in a week.
My thought was big deal, who cares about 3%? Now I am thinking damn if I bought calls, a 3% move could have yielded a 40-50% move in the calls. I then said I need to keep buying the crap.coms of the world becuase they are "cheap" and have a better chance to go up quickly and I closed my mind off of legit large caps.
Again, I am not saying options are for everyone esp newbies, however I think it is in everyone's interest to learn about them.
Two options that I was in but didnt stay in were ATI & TSO. Those options now would be up likely 500% or more.

Yes, first leg down was 40 points. then it recovered a bit, the second leg down got it down to 102 points. then it recovered half of its losses. Then came the third leg down. I think the chances of recovery from here for the day are slim.

Several repected individuals are calling for a world market correction of over 15% from here for the next two months.
That's very scary, and it will take everything down. No one will be spared (except probably solar stocks). lol

I don't think it's that big of a deal right now but it should be in a few years (by 2012, all the negative forces, including Baby Boomers retirement, national deficit, housing collapse, etc., will be converging to kill the US market to oblivion, possibly taking us to another depression).

Alok, I felt the same way about options too, until I actually traded them.
It's literally as simple as trading a stock, except that the percentage moves up and down are huge, and the money is cash out of your account (not margin). You can sell or buy them at anytime. One contract is 100 shares. Calls are going long and puts are going short. You then choose what moth and at what price you think you will be above by that time in the case of Calls, and at what price you will be below, for Puts. If you do not sell or cover your calls and puts before the expiry date and the price at that time is not above where you predcited, you lose your investment. That is unless you get rid of it before hand, if you see the action is not going your way.
If you have an IB account, just add the symbol and pick Option instead of stock, the the month and whether it's a all or put. The symbol would then show up right under the stock symbol, so you can see that action right above the option bid and asks.
I say just try one contract for any stock to practice with it. You'll see how easy it is.

Thanks sahm, you guys are awesome. i'm learning a lot already. simple calls n puts dont confuse me. its when you get into more complex systems like stradles, butterfly's, covered calls, you know the whole gamut. i think i'll start practicing soon, cause someone i heard said there is no point in swing trading with your entire capital, its more advantageous to do it with options.
Regarding your RIMM question, lets hope it does not fall below 130. it is not being dumped due to fundamentals, but as Jake mentioned due to options scandle and SEC probe. remember there were many companies that were hit by this and all of them bounced back, UNH, AAPL to name a few. this does not mean that RIMM will bounce back, but IMO this dip will provide with an excellent entry point.
Actually, if you folks don't trade options i recommend you don't start. If you do, i am pretty certain you'll blow out your account. I have done that a few times when i first started with options. In the end, i just don't feel options are worth playing. Only in special situations when the market crashes then i feel it's worth it.
Stay away from options in general. You'll thank me for it. It is better to short/long stocks outright than to buy options.

I have read your post here for about 2 months.You guys have great info post.I know how much you liked DNDN and didnt know if you had looked at SIGA. They have had huge news but has been kept quiet by the CDC. I wont go on and on but pull up SIGA on yahoo and read news over the last month.Going to get a big gap like DNDN when news breaks.
Seems like they'll keep on pushing and pulling the market in such weird ways until the NASD closes the gap around 2490 or so. Then the downtrend can resume. The INDU seems ready but follows suit when the NASD pushes this hard.

well because i'm so smart i sold JASO in the 19 teens. sigh! so i most certainly hope its not a runner hahaha. anyway its should face some strong resistance between 21-21.5 so be careful with your trade. its very close to its top. although if the mkt is strong this will have no problem breaking the top, they reported excellent results.

gosu, you cant go worng with infy and ctsh, really, even if the report is bad (its very hard to guess) it will still come back and give you your money back. i've made money in infy in the past and love that stock. i'll probably buy it tomorrow. the weakening dollar is whats troubling me, wheneven the dollar weakens all IT company reports show it. but get your foot in now, and if everything is good, get in all the way tomorrow or AH.
I think my computer may crash again. 70 trades so far.

Arun, i think you might have missed the boat for today, its already made a huge move.
however look for dips and then if it reverses, very risky now.
I think JSDA and JASO will be better for day trades. especially JASO.

conventional wisdom would say that fslr dips, but its not happening so have patience.
gigm should go higher but place a stop below todays low just in case.

as far as GIGM goes, now would be an excellent time to buy more shares
i believe GIGM bottomed short-term (close to a 10% correction) off of its 52-wk. high from middle of last week
if you know much about GIGM, their cash-wagering Mahjong play software should be running on Carmen Media Group's websites anytime now
if a PR hits within the next 5-6 trading days, then GIGM should make a big jump
i believe GIGM's recent 6-month share price has been really dragged down b/c Carmen has been very late to roll-out their cash-wagering Mahjong site
also, expect a pre-earnings run to start anytime for GIGM - their Q1'07 earnings are due out in early-May
