MOT alone is not an indicator for the econ. MOT has not been doing well for a long time. they've been kinda flat for a yr (or declining depending on your timeline). but MOT's loss has been NOK's gain. so its all getting offset. same goes for GOOG, goog's loss is YHOO's gain. you will find so many stories like this. please tell me if my thinking if flawed.
Alok, how about the fact that the markets have two rate cuts already priced into the markets. The FED cannot low rates due to the effect it would have on the strength of the dollar. Once the markets realize a cut is not in the near future, look out down below, how long that takes? don't know. Chew on that for a while.

Anon, that is a very very good point. i feel that the main reason the FED has not lowered the rates yet is due to its negative impact on the dollar. the dollar has me more concerned then the interest rate right now. it scares me more cause i have some holdings in the indian mkt too, which falls harder then here.
but these are macro economic factors, they take time to take affect on the mkt. in the mean time what are you going to do. short on every rise? my time horizon for holding is 1-3 weeks, so right now i feel i have better odds being long, like most people on this board. but everything can change if we see another 400 point fall :)

Jake, the reason i responded to ANON (and I'm glad i did) is because he has some very intereting observations about the economy (yes even a blind man can see that the econ is slowing). i liked the discussion cause i learnt something from him. but as a trader you take it one day at a time (one week for me). as an investor you should be listening to him and start getting defensive. all this BS about the sub prime not affecting other areas of the economy is just misleading and in the next 6 months we will start seeing the impacts of that. i'll go out on a limb and say that i think outsourcing is also hurting the american economy (you can kick my ass for having said it out loud)

..Sometimes it Takes a long time to drop...LOOK at the past charts at how FCX corrected the other times...
Once FCX stayed in a norrow 2% / 3% range for 10 days....
That's why i suggested , use the option price channel...as entry, exit...

ANON, i will keep my eye on RIMM but as of now it looks very strong and i dont see it falling. how ever i will change my position if it shows signs of weakness. i dont have a position in it so i'm happy if it moves either way.
About SUNW, i was listening to one of the walstreeters a couple months back, he had mentioned it saying that this has broken a looooooooooong consolidation (look at the monthly chart if you want to know what i mean) so this is a good long term buy in any weakness. cramer is late to the party as usual, but the important point is that atleast he got there. i dont hold any SUNW, i dont have patience for long term right now.
Alok, the monthly chart on SUNW is interesting. If you take a look at it's descent from the end of 2000 to it's final bottom in what looks like July/August of 2002 -- where it dropped from $65 to $2.50 btw -- I can count only six white monthly candles. Now, almost five years after that bottom, we're finally breaking away from the massive volume by price bar that kept this stock grinding for so many years. That's a significant amount of "noise" to dissapate, but the second largest PV bar (as you'll see from my chart) is the one SUNW finds itself in right now, in the $5.50 to $11.00 range. SUNW might be a better trader until it breaks past $11, than a long term buy and hold.
One intersting note to factor in, the 13 and 34 month EMA's are just now crossing over positively. I like to use these lines on a weekly chart to identify long term trends in the positive and negative. I would imagine the monthly lines carry even greater significance, but I cannot vouch for "13 & 34" being the proper metrics.

zee good analysis on the solar's, wish i had time to pitch in but i'm having a blast w my friend. planning on going out drinking tonight, so i'll try something during the week day.
SUNW, you know how people say 'charts don't lie' if thats the case then the monthly chart for SUNW is very pretty. also one thing i've noticed is that you get fewer false signals when you increase your time period, so i consider this to be a lower risk play. obviously right now its not a trade (day trade i mean). it would probably be a better longer term play.
Zee-- check your blog, I've left some commentary on some of the posts, specifically the energy and CHAP posts.
All-- be sure to check out Zee's blog (linked through his name here, if you click on it and scroll down to his blog name "What to buy next"). Lot's of interesting percentage plays, and if any of you did the PACR play he recommended you know that he was spot on almost to the penny.
