The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. Solar stocks en fuego!!!!!!!!!!!

Alternative energy stocks have been rallying and will only continue to move higher in the years ahead.

How big is solar? Ted Turner believes that it will be the biggest thing on the planet, bigger than oil bigger than tech. I tend to agree with him.

So why won't you own some?

Longer term hold.

SPWR, STP, TSL, WFR, FSLR

FSLR:

Cramer had been pushing this solar stock due to their ability to reduce cost of solar energy.

After doing more due diligence on the company, i like this stock and have already accumulated a position.

Recently, a former Intel executive was hired as president to run the company.

A major reason why i am making FSLR my favorite solar play is because the Waltons (as in the family that owns Walmart) have a huge investment in this company, owning over 26 million shares.

After my buying spree yesterday at market open, I realized, I was heavily into margin.
Once I reached my profit target, just click the "Close all positions". Before you blink the eye, all Unrealized gains are converted to realized gains.
I like the sound of that.

I don't see much grow in alot of the sectors. The brokers are almost at $100 billion market cap for each. Ok i give em a double from here to almost $200 billion market cap but that's a little pushing it.

The exchange stocks are about $10 billion market cap a piece. I give it a double or maybe a triple to $30 billion market cap, but you know they can't all be triples.

Techs like Intel and Yahoo and their ilk, how much more can they grow from here? Not very much. I don't see any disruptive technology can could inspire a new bull market there.

Oil? C'mon, how much more can it go? If it gets too expensive, we would be in trouble and the government will do something about it. (Peak oil would have to surprise us overnite to cause a surge.)

Housing? Nah.

Commodities? Yes but it is now red hot and should trade sideways for awhile. This sector should have another decade or two to go.

The only sector i see that are at their early growth stage and are growing rapidly is alternative energy, especially solar energy. Look at the financials of SPWR, STP , TSL and FSLR. Their financials are on fire! For the next 5 years or so, this has to be the place to be. It is certainly disruptive technology, and will likely lead the next huge bull market.

Paul,
with all due respect to GOSU or anyone else on the boards, you can NOT short a stock under $5 anywhere! Nonetheless, heres the IB list:
The following stocks are listed on the Reg-SHO watch list. Reg-SHO is a US regulation governing stock shortability. In general, Reg-SHO restricted stocks are not permitted for shorting. However, IB may allow Reg-SHO stocks to be shorted when inventory conditions permit. The main shortable list defines the actual availability.
http://www.nyse.com/threshold/

**Inventory YES but once the stock falls below 5 it becomes NON marginable and the firm requires you to maintain @ 100 % equity thus you may not sell short**

This anonymous is a moron. As I said, NEW started its day yesterday at 5.61. Click here to see lifetime chart of NEW. It was never before yesterday a "sub 5 dollar stock"
Also, Click here to see the following information on Yahoo Finance on NEW.
Shares Short (as of 12-Feb-07)3: 16.73M
Short Ratio (as of 12-Feb-07)3: 4.5
Short % of Float (as of 12-Feb-07)3: 36.10%
Shares Short (prior month)3: 12.79M

Anyway, you don't want to come to IB just for list of shorting stocks
The price on stock trades (1 dollar on most), options and futures trading is my main reason for working with IB.
Also, its client software is fast and intuitive and has one of the fastest execution on the market.
Plus, the support is awesome.

Here is the news:
NEW YORK, March 9 (Reuters) - NYMEX Holdings Inc. (NMX.N: Quote, Profile, Research), which owns the world's largest physical commodities exchange, is expected to offer between 5 million and 10 million shares in a secondary offering, Dow Jones reported on Friday.

Nymex shares were up 4.5 percent, or $5.36, at $124.29 in late afternoon trading on Friday.

An offering of 10 million shares would be worth about $1.2 billion at NYMEX's current share price.

So, either contribute positively to the board or shut the hell up. contribute posit

Should be interesting to see how you do Monday then. What was your after hours entry price?

Hey Alok,
I know you are interested in some technical analysis.
This guy is really technical. http://stockbee.blogspot.com

This guy is little too technical.

He also has FSLR on his list.

thanks gosu, its just that in the short term like today, it looks like it formed a double top. so unless we see more positive momentum getting in at this price seems to be in my opinion getting in too late. i'm sure it will pull back (like all stocks do) and present us with a better entry point. that is just my opinion.

and what is this, i thought you were 100% cash, when the heck did you start accumulating :) you sly CUSTARD (i'll keep the board clean for all the kids out there, damn i envy you traders, i'm here working at 2:30 on a sat morning, this week has been hell, someone please post a good joke or something, cud use a good laugh)

That is so true Alok. Just as I was kicking myself for selling ICE at 139 , GS at 204 and CME at 543 back in Dec. and Jan., it was unbelievable to see ICE at 127 (from high of 167), GS at 190 (from 222) and CME at 509 (from 596)at their lows just in the last few days.

Did you had a chance to see the stockbee blog?
I would you at least read the following:

Gosu, i was looking at it last night but didn't give it a thorough read. i'll do that tomorrow.

someone here was kicking himself for selling OPBL when it was high flying. i like it now here at 6.4, if we dont see any more weakness this should go back to 9 soon.

I like Z's idea of the airline stocks bottoming. I don't know how many of you use Gann levels, but it seems like CAL and UAUA are approaching the G2 level. Cramer likes UAUA, but I'm more inclined to buy CAL just from my personal experience as a United frequent flier. Needless to say me and other UA fliers have really noticed the decrease in service since the exit from bankruptcy. I know plenty of Premier Executives, 1K's, and Global Service members that have gone over to Continental over this.

Follow up on buy the airlines.

XAL has more potential downside risk.
XAL 50/52 , makes for better entry price.

This just in…. XOM share buy back program = $7 bil. Per Q. That’ll keep XLE high.

XLE stays high, also means SOLAR POWER stocks stay high.

Downside to buying Airlines at this time, Tim Knight still bearish on CAL. (I don’t know why). http://tradertim.blogspot.com/
Also, XAL, sitting at 200 day = 53.8, and though it is a tempting buy signal,
Xal can still manage to fall another $3 ( 2.5% - 6%)to (at) 50/52,
and that is a stronger entry signal, for CAL + others

Airline bottoms can be tough to call sometimes.. We are there now, or one blow out day left.

Came across this analysis that I thought may be of interest to others in the Beanie11111 community. By Howard Blackstein. I tend to agree, based on the market's behaviour and charts last week. Any thoughts?

z-stock, the only way airlines are going to start going up is oil starts to go down. we saw a small slide in oil prices on friday. if it continues this week then airline stocks should start their recovery. i agree with you, they've been slammed very hard but then oil had run up from 50-63. normally oil has a pull back in march before the summer run up. i think the late winter also helped oil in feb or else we should have been near 55.

IS ANYONE ELSE PAYING $3 FOR GAS AGAIN, is it me or does everyone feel that gas is going up by a buck every couple of yrs.

Z, I think Tim is bearish on CAL because it has not done a full retracement yet. The G2 level/50% Fibbonaci level is at $36.90 for CAL.

My thoughts for this weekend:

CA is going lower.

JSDA if it doesn't gap up on Monday you need to sell if you're daytrading the stock.

I get the feeling we may have another leg down before the true recovery. We either go up most of next week and then sputter the week after, or we start going down on Monday (The friday afternoon buys may be setting the stage for that).

Solar stocks, and alternative energy, are the places to be for the next several years. I am very convinced of that. I like FSLR the most because the Walmart Waltons own a large stake. They don't seem to own anything else besides Walmart and First Solar.

SMSI is going places and could be the phone companies' last hope against the iPhone's music download capabilities. SMSI is a buy for the long term. Speculation is that they already bagged Sprint.

CLWR, offered here as a daytrade, could be the next Vonage the Dog.. lol. Actually, it won't be like vonage, because given enough time it'll run Vonage out of business. It is like vonage because it is a debt-laden company. CLWR has a very compelling product: you just plug a wireless modem into any electrical outlet and you get high speed wireless internet access. Wimax. They also offer a phone service similar to Vonage but theirs are wireless and Vonage is not. But their network is costly to build. Intel and Motorola has a big investment in the company. Can they succeed before running out of money? Stay tuned..... (I got no position)

The yen carry trade is given the reason for the market tankage 2 weeks ago. Question is, if the yen carry trade is the problem there is no way it's done unwinding this quickly. I am hearing that the yen carry trade is in the trillions as opposed to billions. Hedgefunds and others took advantage of the very low interest rates of the Japanese currency and invested in higher yield instruments elsewhere. But you know it can't stay low forever. Keep watching the asian markets......

CME unbelievable i missed that drop and the rise. Puts and calls could have been multibaggers each way. Right now as it stands it could go either way. Some people are bettin it goes down from here. But it's premature because the stock is still above the 50dayMA.

Have a great weekend!
