The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. I have no affiliations with any broker/dealer and all posts are for educational purposes only. Spinning with NVEC!!!!!

NVEC closed @25.41

It's the right time to get in NVEC. The chart technicals are very good.

NVEC is a nanotech company that makes 'mram' - a futuristic version of the 'dram'. Very small company but profitable.

Intermediate term trade. 50% gainer from here is very possible.

CLWR doing poorly.

it is a high risk high wire ipo....as I posted earlier this week, this ipo has a little bit of everything I look to avoid with ipo's.

one thing I pride myself on is looking at ipo's objectively and shutting out the opinions of others and/or hype etc.....avoid it at any price.

Yes, this is so funny JakeGint. Because these days I am trading only on days in which the market is clearly roaring up.

Beanie11111, I have been following this site for a bit. Have been day/swing/position-trading since the abacus. I really appreciate the interface on this board when studious, worthwhile, cogent comments and opinions, backed up by market fundamentals and seasoned instinctual trading, are presented. I have observed something in the past few days, daytrading ICE, of which I am sure you are already aware. I placed a one minute chart of the QID next to the one minute chart of ICE ( I trade with a number of different time periods, averages, etc.) and it has been a really big help. Thanks again for a great blog interface.

And if CME can double top, so forth and so forth.. I’d still like to see ICE test Jan $123 low. That will be quite low. And time to pile in…..

My typical trade size is about 20K.
Now, it is getting clear that to be an effective trader you need to learn to short as well.
Thats how you start. This trade size to short NEW was only about 2.5K.
Plus, can anybody tell me that it was a bad trade?
The stock has been battered almost 70% on all kinds of bad news.
Looking at its one day chart, it started the day at 5.60. It started going down on really very high volume, the MACDs were screaming to the downside.
How else do you pick up a better short candidate to day trade? Anybody?
Also, why does it matter that the stock was under 5 dollars?
Its all about percentages right? I got 4% out of it in 10 mins. Anything wrong?

Thu Mar 08, 04:03:00 PM EST

Thu Mar 08, 04:10:00 PM EST

I think it is more about availability of stock for shorting a stock under $5 than the price of the stock. Most stocks under $5 usually have a trading volume of under 1 million.
Look at the volume today for NEW - 50 million shares traded today.
I don't think there was any shortage of NEW stock for brokerages to let borrow for shorting.

jackmehog,

Thanks for answering the question regarding if stocks under $5 can be shorted. So much for Gosu's credibility!

"OTHER STOCKS YOU CANNOT SHORT - Aside from being unable to locate shares to short in the first place, there are other cases in which you may find that you cannot short a stock. Generally speaking, you cannot short most IPO's, nor can you short stocks under $5 (however, as an interesting side note, I believe in Canada you can short stocks of any price)."

I can't believe how moron you are. But thank god for moron traders like you, wall street is making money.

NEW (New Century financial) started its day at 5.61. So, if it gaps down (like it did today), it suddenly becomes non-shortable?

This is from Yahoo finance.

Shares Short (as of 12-Feb-07)3: 16.73M
Short Ratio (as of 12-Feb-07)3: 4.5
Short % of Float (as of 12-Feb-07)3: 36.10%
Shares Short (prior month)3: 12.79M

Also, this from foxnews

Short-sellers have been waiting for New Century's troubles to snowball, with the number of shares held short, meaning investors expect them to go down, rising by nearly a third the latest date for which data are available. About one-third of New Century's public float is held short,
