i dont like sify and redf but given a choice bet the two i would be looking at redf as it might be ready to break the 200dma. if it does not break the 200dma this could head lower and might be a better play shorting. please note both are in a downtrend right now (which is understandable since the indian mkt has fallen a whopping 2000 pts from its peak).
some of the stronger ADR's are CTSH, INFY, IBN, HDB, RDY, VSL, TTM (cramer pumps this on regularly TATA motors) and etfs are IIF and IFN. hope that helps.
In place of IFN or IIF, buy INP. Look at their comparison chart here

1) Last evening I bought 1200 shares of ONT
2) This morn I placed a stop order on that for 1.46.
3) I cancelled that order and placed a sell limit at 1.48
4) Apparently between step 2 and step3 taking place I was stopped out. So when I was doing step3 I did not own any shares of ONT
Now Tradeking says that that order was automatically made a sell short order. And what do you know I sold short 1200 shares of ONT at 1.46. Do you remember this big discussion of not being able to short <5 stocks. Well that just happened and the rep said you CAN short stocks below $5.

Ski- I'm going to watch closely on FCX... It looks like it's already close to overbought again on the 5 minute charts, and looking to turn again at 61.30 or so, so I think there's more downside for the next hour at least.
I also think FCX might be a decent long term short, because of the PD acquisition, for which they paid a ton. Usually bidding wars don't lead to good results for the winner. So, Bernake aside, I think FCX is in trouble no matter the case.
Same goes for EXPD, btw, although I have not shorted this one yet.

I think solar power has a very limited potential, since the panels efficiency is really low while they occupy too much space. Also they a crazily expensive.
It won't be a big exageration to say that to power , say, NY city from solar you need to cover the entire US surface with panels (also too much oil will be burned to prouce those panels).
Solar energy has a very limited use at places where there are a lot of sun (maybe California).
I think that solar power is nothing comparing to the energy demand of mankind.

This will be interesting... the $RUT bounced nicely (twice) off it's 61.8% Fib line, and is right at it's 78.6% line (in fact it's 795.48)... if it rolls here we should see a revisit back to 770 and below. If it takes, off, well... long time. High of day has been 795.58, thus far, btw.

PRTS... they're selling this one as if it is going out of business.....
they'll be solidly cash flow positive in '07 and grow revenues 30%(and that even includes backing in the acquisition to 1/1/05).
if they'd never acquired this partsbin, stock would be close to $15.....but the acquisition will help them once they get it fully integrated.
some of these analysts expect these little companies to have their CC's come off like a CSCO call.
anyway, there is no 'double booking' of revenues here at all..... not at all.

you will get ZERO bid and lose all of your money everytime...
if anything you should be selling covered calls or buying puts to hedge a long position, not speculating and buying puts at the bottom of a MKT correction..

Whew are my fingers tired. Got out of every short position quick when RUT-roh busted $800 like a hot knife through butter. Thanks goodness I hedged with some (but not enough, lol!) $RUT calls this morning. The nice runup after I'd sold my puts, however, broke me even. Now I'm out of those as well (no, I didn't catch the top, sold at $807-ish area), and the only thing I have left is half my FCX put position. NOW watch the market tank, lol.
And look at this Zee, all that beautiful greenery, and still FCX is showing red...
I think what MAS meant was that beginners and even intermediate experienced traders should not be trading options.
Just like I am not completely comfortable shorting stocks, trading futures and options.
These are highly leveraged financial instruments and people should be very careful trading these.
options are a very risky tool to trade without a hedge thats all, take it from a former series 4 holder and 10+ yrs of option trading experience..

Covered calls are risky also. Many people will be drawn to higher risk stocks because of the higher premiums. I would personally only write calls on stocks that I already owned with the idea of writing a call not even factored into owning the stock.

Take care MAS, your advice was neither harsh nor ill-advised. One way to dip your foot in the water on options, fellahs (and ladies?), is to sell a put or call and purchase the next rung down or up (depending on which direction you are trading) as a hedge. This limits your exposure (and allows you the flexibility to get out of one or the other) and also your gain, but can get you used to the trading patterns over time (of which time is a very important component, btw).
BTW-- I think Beanz was recommending QQQQ puts as a HEDGE, which means you ought to have had some NASDAQ like tech stocks in your LONG portfolio which did well today.

Okay, Zee, I finally understand what you are talking about regarding "option channels."
Basically, you are setting up day trades here, buying at x and selling at y (both specific points) and then doing it all over again as long as the channel lasts (your "five to ten days"). You are not actually speculating on the action of the stock, per se, but of the options themselves. I tell you, this is a new level of complexity for me. I'm going to have to get out my McMahon book to see what he says about it... lol!

FSLR did nicely.
WFR great but the huge two day rally was precipated by a guy named RevShark at thestreet.com . He favors polysilicon over thin film. Polysilicon has its place but the stuff is still too expensive compared to the components of thin film. However, thin film panels are too bulky for residential uses. Doesn't mean FSLR can't acquire a polysilicon solar company if it needs to.
I guess my original call with GOOG was the correct call, rather than the latter. CME also did nicely.

((( warning )))Tradeking cost me alot of money. they allowed me to buy stock but would not let me sell it. when I went to sell, the order was rejected. It took me 3 days to unload MGM by that time I had lose over a dollar a share. when I called Tradeking and told them to sell my stocks they would not sell them and the stock was falling.It took about 45 min. of pleading with them to sell my stock before they finally did.
