The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. The Case For a Huge Snapback Rally

A little bit of it came a day sooner than i thought.

I think Thursday was capitulation day and stocks should stabilize. I predict we may even rally hard starting next week.

I think we are done selling. I posted the reason i believe that is the case at www.tradertim.blogspot.com Thursday nite/Friday early morning. I'll repost some of it here:

'
The world markets are crashing and will likely continue for some time. The USA selloff is in sympathy to the rest of the world, as well as being overextended in its rising. The question is whether US market will follow them to the abyss. Even if it does, the USA correction will not last for more than 3 months. It may end up being very quick but very sharp.

On Friday, I think we go down early morning and go lower at the close and bounce on Monday.

AKAM, SBUX, WFMI have all bottomed at the lower bottom range. I have told my people to look into AKAM when it was near 42, SBUX near 29, and WFMI slightly below 40. I still consider them at bottom at current levels. A better way to put it is AKAM has bottomed at low 40's, SBUX has bottomed at the very high 20's, and WFMI has bottomed in the very high $30's.

-AKAM has major support at 41.
-SBUX has major support at 28. (It's at 27 now, but give it one more day to right itself.)
-WFMI has major support at 38.

-YHOO is also at bottom.
-AMGN already bounced off the bottom.
-DNA is at bottom.
-AMD is essentially at bottom.
-BRCM is at bottom.
-CSCO is near bottom.
-MOT is near bottom.
-DIS is near bottom.
-EBAY is 2 points near bottom.
-NYX has bottomed at 80.

etc.

So many decent companies are showing stock prices near intermediate bottoms that i don't think the market is headed that much lower. It would take an extraordinary worldwide event to precipitate a crash-like situation that could break bottoms for these stocks. Ben Benanke not cutting interest rates this year is NOT enough of a good reason for a bear market! Perhaps a severe global tectonic plate slippage, that causes the deaths of millions, might. Or maybe some big news coming from China might.

Very interesting dichotomy here. The traders are telling me we aren't done selling. The world markets collapse is telling me we not done selling. Even my astrologer is saying we're not done selling. Yet when i look at alot of stocks (that are not current leaders) they are telling me that we are done selling essentially as of yesterday. '

Those stocks above (and many more) are indeed at intermediate bottoms. Many of them were selling off weeks before the 3-day market plunge. This leads me to believe that Thursday was capitulation. If these stocks don't go down any further (and Friday's action confirms they likely won't), how can the market continue to go down? It simply can't. And if i am correct, we go higher from next week on. Will we get a huge snapback rally, in addition to Friday's?

Many traders believe that we will repeat last June's selloff, but the situation last year was that most of the stocks above were at their highs. Those stocks above are nowhere near last year's highs! In a bear market, we could definately go lower, but the last i checked we are NOT IN A BEAR MARKET.

Beanie...I like the new format - lots of details. I came to a simliar conclusion... for example look at the DOW stocks. I don't see them going to down too far. Which is why I loaded up DDM huge on margin before fridays close.

I could easily be wrong but I'm liking the odds and the downside protection.

Agreed, we go higher.

The only precaution I am taking is to sell off my margin debt into strength on Monday, and a litte rebalancing.

Until we see some huge correction, I will only use margin for very short term trades, no overnighters or swing trades.

ENCY = D-Day this week. $$ to be made starting tomorrow.

VG = Hard target $4 by 6/25. Could hit $6 soon.

TMTA = Another speculative play at 33 frikkin' cents!!! $50M cash, no debt, 1 Intel lawsuit, and not much revenue coming in. Target = $1.00 this month.

CCUR = The king of baggers at < $2 and piddly $136M market cap. If all goes well with its VOD plans, that cap is going to hit $1B and a lot more. Do the math, take a small position, and forget about it for a year or two. One day, you'll thank me for it and offer me riches, a partnership in your company, and the hand of your daughter in marriage.

As you can tell, I play small coz I don't have big money, don't day trade, and focus on short to medium term risk: reward scenarios. Good luck, peeps.

I'm positioned enough for a rally but with enough cash to weather a storm. Storm hits, I go to cash and wait patiently for the clouds to clear.

The quality of posts have really improved lately! Here's my small contribution:

For M & A potential, I care about 3 names -

PDLI - I dont wanna bet against Danny Loeb of Third-Point - if Loeb can kick McDade off the island, PDLI will gap up into the 30s...and yes, BIIB would be a VERY GOOD fit to have PDLI on board...I doubt PDLI will go much under 24...Loeb put a nice floor under PDLI right here..

IMCL - I like Steven Harr's work (from Morgan Stanley) - but his downgrd on IMCL and put a 28 dollar price tag is absurd...BIG BIG Binary looming for IMCL - the frontline lung cancer study - data will come this Sept - during the international cancer confer in Korea...expectations are very low for this trial - I am NOT so sure why the bears are so confid the trial will bomb...I was one of the few thinking Avastin be positive in the frontline lung cancer trial - DNA had a mktcap of 45 billion before the lung cancer data...then Avastin worked in lung cancer, DNA mktcap increased over 12 billion in a week after the data release...Imclone's mktcap is about 4 billion here...if Erbitux works in lung cancer, you will see IMCL back to the Martha price once again in a deal..(BMY or Merck KGA will be the natural taker)...my odds for the lung cancer work - 40% - below avg but not zero as many bears of IMCL here are betting..IMCL at 35-37 will discount the lung cancer data totally...and if lightning strikes - OMG..

ONXX - Nexavar is the king of the hill in liver cancer treatment - it will set a new 'gold" standard - this means every other drug in development for liver cancer now has to beat Nexavar in terms of efficacy and safety...Pfizer's Sutent is the closest in terms of competition...but it looks like Sutent is having similar efficacy and very high toxicity (vs Nexavar)...Bayer has a very rich stock currency here...it can take ONXX in a heartbeat w/o any much dilutions...if ONXX drops near 28 - buy buy buy///

These three will be my bios with products bet...all because of significant upside in a deal situation..

its called the MAX PAIN THEORY.The makers will try to bring the price in as close to the middle of the majority of strike prices of the outstanding option contracts expiring that month. That way most expire worthless and they pocket all the cash they made selling them to the public.

Thats the short simple explanation of the theory at least. Holds pretty true most of the time tho.

a good way to play short term options if you learn it.

NOT EVEN CLOSE!

S&P breaks the 50D MA we'll see 1460 quick, break of that and @1425 next stop.[40d MA, weekly]

NAZ - break of 2540 and 2525 next stop, if that fails 2440 area, and long term lower trend line @2275.

DOW - break of 13156 and next support is at @12800, next one down @12500 but i'd expect the first to hold.

keep in mind, these are just supports, we may never drop that far, we may drop there tommorrow, no one knows, but for now the path of least resistance is DOWN. Buyers may step in any time , now, at the supports or in between.

But for now most of the markets are trapped bteween their 20D and 50D moving averages. a break thru either of those will tell you the direction, at least short term.

Follow the technicals on downside markets.

due to the candle patterns on the S&P and NAZ i been loadin up on puts.

Jakey,

went thru the last two weeks post looking for anything M or anyone posted on MNKD. Couldn't find any post even mentioning it. Maybe you can find it and repost it, I'd like to read what he had to say, but I did't see it anywhere. He had alot of pharma plays but no MNKD.

its at @$14.20 now but...
went short in it yesterday PM, like too see @ $11.40 but I'll set 1rst stop target @$12.50

Wed Jun 06, 04:01:00 PM EDT"

low today=$12.52 , up 13% so far and it'll still see $11.40 for @ 24.5%.

I think TSL may have a bounce or two, but @$37 is the bottom in my opinion.

TSL - closed today $39.19 and i still think there's more downside

SWN still moving up
my sloth HGRD up 15% since the call
JSDA still got downside room IMO
Said I didn't like WFMI when beaniee called it , and still dont, Its got more downside coming.

Tue Jun 05, 10:14:00 PM EDT"

JSDA- down a dollar since then
WFMI -down $2.24 since then
HGRD - stopped out for a 12% gain, [but its still in play, but a slug]

SWN - stopped out that day for a 9% gain.
[original post - CATCHERNTHERYE said...

SWN breakout, Broke out 8 week consolidation, large comparable volume on the breakout, closed just at pivot point/52 week high,[$45.11] prior breakouts @ 12% gain, should put target @$50.29

stops @$44 [weak]-$43[mid]-$42[strong] depending on your pain threshold, but any violation of todays close tommorrow would be a reason to wait. Needs to break $45.11 AND HOLD! [my buy @ 45.20 maybe]

Do your own homework.

Thu May 17, 09:12:00 PM EDT"

top of SWN on on 6/4 = $49.55, easy money.

made and lost $$ on puts and calls, but all said ,came out ahead pretty decent in options.

my point is I dont care what people say about charts, theres money to made reading them if you just are careful with your picks and use trailing stops or sell stops.

fundamentals = long term
charts = short term

I thought you meant on THIS blog.

I've never seen that guy on this blog nor heard of him.[wacky f***ing site tho, like a bad acid trip]

wish i would a saw it then tho, nice move, I only caught the last two days, and bought it with pure risk money[$1,000.00] and gonna let it ride for the haul. The way I see it,Bill Millers been buying it and he's a helluva lot smarter than me.

jake,
that is one WEIRD ass site you hang out at. WTF? like a punk rock, mushroom party.

Anyway, yeah he called it perfect, but sold it out too soon, thing saw $14.00 before it turned around.

I like the long term tho, HUGE potential. I usually dont get worked up about biotech or pharma , too risky long term, but with Bill on my side, hey , WTF? right.

ICE upped it's bid for CBOT again. As a person who deals with M&A on a regular basis, this is the nuttiest thing I've ever seen. Usually, the winner takes a hit to his stock price. In this case, it seems whomever gets CBOT (no matter how huge the overpayment) will get rewarded by Mr. Market.

Probably a good time to short whomever wins in the end?... a quarter after the deal is finalized.

CMS,

Sorry....I missed your post on HDY. Like I mentioned before, HDY is pure speculation at this point. Apparently, the Guinea Ministry is taking its own sweet time to study the PSA. The pps will continue to fluctuate. The plan was to try and get a few free shares out of it last week so you can ride them. The political unrest in Africa isn't doing HDY any good. All said and done, play small and play with your lunch money. There's no telling how HDY is gonna behave.

GNBT could continue its pop from today. RR put out a $6 target, and it jumped almost 50% today. Could see sustained action this week.

Me...I'm focused on ENCY this week. Too much at stake for me.

Good luck.
