The last few years have been great to me, as i was able to clobber the S&P500 many times in returns. But of course, you can't make a living trading the markets if you don't make great great returns. I'll try to give my readers trades that i think will make them money. However, you need to have money management skills, in order not to lose everything on a greedy or stupid trade. I may or may not already be in the trades i recommend. I may or may not trade the stocks i recommend. Due diligence is required on your part and the usual disclaimer that i am not responsible for your losses always apply. I have no affiliations with any broker/dealer and all posts are for educational purposes only. I am raising BIDU's target from $1,000 to $2,000!

BIDU trades @ 317 right this moment.

If you believe in the economic future of China, then BIDU is perhaps your best bet to capitalize on it. BIDU to $2,000 means only about 60 billion market cap (which will be about 1/3 the size of GOOG is now).

Buy buy buy!

All I know is I asked you last week if I should take profit on my YGE only to see it tumble. I doubled up and just dump that double position. Still hold the same amount of shares from last week.

I also got back in VMW yesterday (got stopped out 2 weeks ago, got hurt) feeling good now though.

Thanks Beanie!

This is far from first time this decade I've been frustrated at current stock valuations. With my trading I stick to what I do best, look for growth and value (preferably together) at a reasonable price. There are times when the market doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, have always found the best way to get through these periods is to stick with what I know and do best and not change that approach. That is how I'm looking at things here.

As I wrote last week, I'm on pace for 2nd best $$$ year ever, but doesn't quite feel like it though. Been more of a tortoise as opposed to the hare here in '07.

anon,

If you believe in the Rise Of The Solars for several years to come, then you must not get out with a loss. Makes no sense. You just have to add more of the same stock (or different solar stock) on big dips. Once you get a sizable profit (100%?), then you go ahead and sell a portion (or half) and ride the rest for all its worth. The portion you sold can be used to be redeployed to other solar stocks on big dips.

It absolutely makes no sense to jump off the train with everything you own, and try to jump back in when the market rallies hard. You miss so much of the move that way.

In a runaway bull market, most profits are made by sitting and waiting. Taking 1/2 profits is recommended when it is sizable, but taking full profits in solars is a big NO-NO! Look at how much most of you already missed on FSLR for being a Sir Jumpalot! It was first recommended at below 50! Those that bought and held could now take 1/2 off and maybe put that portion into STP or such.

Investing is an awesome game, if you play sensibly.

That's my take.

Chinese Solar is like US Ethanol a couple years ago. When supply goes higher than down and pricing power goes away, it is when they all crash to single digits.

2008 will be brutal for solars.

Blogger beanie11111 said...

Another strategy is to play it Cramer-style, by trading around your core position. For instance, if you own FSLR and it goes up too much in the short term, you can sell maybe 10-20% and wait for a dip to buy back in.

I invest/trade with a variation of these two strategies. They work and they make investing very fun.

Obviously i ain't gonna give you my full strategy. You have to develop your own and find what is comfortable for you.

Gosu, congrats for holding acm well into the $30's, ditto ej into mid 20's. I sold both too early.

did quite a bit of web reading last night of those whose market gurus I respect and have done well over the years. the one constant seems to be:

1) the concern over this post-fed euphoric action and
2) that the momo in select names is reminsicent of 1999ish type action right down to new 'gurus' that move stocks just by mentioning a symbol.

at least I'm not alone. we're less than two monthe removed from a mini-panic type situation and complacency and greed have returned as if nothing ever happened and there are zero issues out there.

odd time to be in market.
